Super Mom or Super Crazy?

Hello all! Thank you for taking the time to read my first blog post (as a Contributor) with Eccentric Designs. In posts to come I plan to share with you a glimpse of my life – sharing with you my life experiences as a mother, significant other, and future Mompreneur (Mom + Entrepreneur). I will be sharing with you lessons learned, traveling and networking adventures, personal testimonies, and comical situations I may encounter in my day to day life.

Today I will be posting about my experiences as a mother -  trying to be a “Super Mom” who may have bitten off more than I can chew. Being a mother in this day and age with social media at our children’s fingertips (having easy access to any and everything) has made it difficult to keep up with the latest social media trends, lingo, fads, etc. I’ve found that something basic as navigating a website has become a job in itself (making me feel old!) Meanwhile my lovely, intelligent, social media savvy, YouTube tutorial addicted, DIY (do it yourself) tween has presented me with an idea for a Halloween costume (yes, she’s already planning her costume!) Now the irony is she’s never been big on dressing up for Halloween, or even remotely interested in partaking in any aspect of the Holiday other than the “candy eating portion”.
So, to my surprise she came to me months in advance inquiring if she could “dress up” this year.  Immediately (I went into mommy mode) and I knew there was a party somewhere in the midst of this - and I was correct! My tween’s BFF (best friend forever) had convinced her mother to have a dress up Halloween Party at their house with a bonfire and close friends. Unfortunately, as time progressed there was a change of plans causing the event to be cancelled. My daughter was absolutely crushed! Being the oh so awesome mom (I am),  without hesitation I volunteered to help her with the creation of her costume she found via YouTube – Creepy Doll Halloween Makeup – and  to host a Halloween dress-up Birthday Party (for her younger brother) at our home in which she can invite a few friends as well. I want to throw out a disclaimer in no way shape, or form am I creative with DIY projects, decorating, or managing a large group of children, however; without hesitation I can easily put my feelings to the side and do whatever it takes to create happy memories for my children.

So, “Creepy Doll” and “Michael Jackson” (for my son) DIY projects here I come! Oh, and my son doesn’t want to be the cute “Jackson 5” Michael Jackson – he wants to be a “zombie” MJ! Since zombies are the most recent fad (which secretly has delighted me), I immediately thought of the video, “Thriller,” now my creative juices are flowing. Currently, I’m beginning the process of acquiring party materials. Thanks to my mother who loves early morning news, I found out that a store in Tampa, FL is going out of business called – Bead Barn – and is having a large liquidation sale. This famous Gasparilla location is filled with beads, costumes, and other décor. I am hopeful I will make it in time to grab a few items for my son’s Halloween Birthday Party.

Please stay tuned for the outcome of this event. I will have more details to share with you before, during, and after (including pictures) next month along with references with regards to where I got the ideas, materials, and decorations from. Additionally, I will share with you pictures of my children – Jae and Q – in their costumes! I hope you’ve enjoyed my mini intro and will follow up with my future blog posts.
